Did you know that the famous celery stick garnish started rather innocently? In 1960, after ordering a Bloody Mary at Chicago’s Ambassador East Hotel, a customer received his drink without a swizzle stick. A relish tray was nearby, so he grabbed a stalk of celery to stir the familiar ingredients – vodka, tomato juice, spices, and other flavorings, such as Tabasco sauce. It stuck!
The annual Bloody Mary Festival in Nashville is coming up soon! This year’s event will be held on Sunday, March 11th at Track One. Starting at 3:30 pm, your ticket includes tastes of all participating Bloody Marys, local food & beverage samples, live music, and more!
This year’s Bloody Mary Festival is proud to sponsor Fannie Battle, a day home for children of families facing economic and financial hardships. It’s no secret that finding a safe and affordable place for your young children is a challenge. Fannie Battle aims to fill that gap and provide “affordable, high-quality childcare for at-risk children in a nurturing environment while empowering families to reach their potential.”
The Fannie Battle day home began over 125 years ago in 1891, when Miss Fannie Battle saw children roaming the streets while their parents went to work. According to the website, “she rented a room in East Nashville and began caring for these children by clothing, feeding, educating, and even getting much-needed medical attention to them.” With support from the community, Fannie Battle is still able to provide the same, critical services to local families in need.
Are you in? Get your tickets here before they’re gone!
